The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: But the wicked regardeth not to know it.“

Proverbs 29:7

The subject of this passage is the cause of the poor. He actions are explained and classifications are applied based on the action.

Simply put, someone is classified by their interaction with the cause of the poor.

The cause, as in legal suit, judgement and disputes of the poor, is taken up by those who are in position to be responsible for the judgement or outcome of the lowly, weak, someone unable to defend themself physically, monetarily, socially, legally, etcetera. The poor could be a child, someone mentally incapable, someone without resources, the elderly and more.

What we see in this proverb is the righteous considers or makes the effort to perceive the position of those who are lowly, weak, incapable of standing up for themselves and do not have a voice. This does not require the authority to rule in the favor of the poor, but they must make the effort to hear their position and utilize judgement appropriately.

The wicked, on the other hand, make a point not to hear the poor. They have an agenda, a benefactor to protect, someone or something that is paying them to mis-use their judgement (see the Exposé on Proverbs 29:4).

Whether the poor is an unborn child being aborted due to it’s Mother’s choice or the poor is an outsider being wrongfully charged with a crime they did not commit to protect an insider. The list goes on to include any number of atrocities humans inflict on each other due to pride, greed, selfishness or other self interest.

The wicked will not hear the whole story.

The righteous will study to ensure the poor have their cause heard.
