During the COVID years our family worked operating a Property Management and Property Maintenance company in Sevier County, TN. Our workload more than doubled but it seemed harder and harder to keep up with the financial bills. My Wife, Sarah and I worked harder and longer but we saw our financial goals getting farther away. During this time we also watched the price of properties skyrocket. I had been a Realtor for years and finally convinced Sarah to get her Real Estate license as well and I went back to school to gain my Real Estate Broker’s license. Between working to sell, manage and maintain Real Estate we have amassed an education that is unparalleled in Real Estate.
Sometime during 2022-2023 we started fielding questions from our adult children and their friends about buying Real Estate. By early 2024 we had noticed a distressing trend growing in our community. The idea of being able to purchase Real Estate seemed impossible for young adults and especially for those interested in starting families. As our kids friends would set in our living room, around our kitchen table or around a campfire in the front yard I noticed they were not optimistic about their financial prospects. They asked questions about finances, jobs and Real Estate and I saw the conventional wisdom I had acquired was insufficient to give these desperate young people the answers they needed.
I began to research finances, business dealings and money mindsets but I could see much of it was the same junk spewed at me and it did not really make long term or solid financial sense. Continuing the research, but turning my eye to an older source I came to the Biblical book of Proverbs. Study revealed there were over 200 passages in the book of Proverbs dealing with finances, work mindsets, long term financial goals and understanding the authoritative structures which comprised money. This was old information. Really old information. It could be so old it was irrelevant but as the study progressed it became apparent the opposite was true. The information was old but it was transcendent. This was a gold mine! The Authors did not care about which school of economics you ascribe to nor the merits and shortcomings of fiat currency because the M2 money supply is irrelevant in personal finance (actually it is not completely irrelevant. Your M2 money supply is relevant). What I learned, is on a grand scale, we need to not be so worried about the grand scale. We need to work diligently on our personal finances. Our Country, region, political prospects and economic growth are not something I can control. I need, and you need to work on what we have the responsibility to manage.
You will find many of our blog posts are excerpts from this financial research. You will also notice we are not operating our Real Estate business the same way most Realtors do because we are following an older path. Now, How does that help you?
