”The desire of the slothful killeth him; For his hands refuse to labour. He coveteth greedily all the day long: But the righteous giveth and spareth not.“
Proverbs 21:25-26
What a slothful man desires will kill him because what he desires is to be lazy, therefore he refuses to labor to improve his situation.
This rejection of productivity leads to other forms of securing resources, eventually reaching the level of underhandedness and theft.
He sets in his place watching greedily as others make their way and he desires what the others have and do.
On the other hand, an upright person gives value to others and does not hold back.
The main contrast is between mindsets not personnel. One mindset desires but will not earn the other earns and is readily assisting.
It is unfortunate to watch the lazy person destroy himself attempting to wrestle away what a righteous person would gladly share if the lazy man would attempt to earn it.
I was in a sales meeting one day when an underperforming salesman asked a top producer to, “throw him a bone,” implying he wanted some of the sales the top producer was making. The top producer offered to meet the next morning at 6:30 and discuss a strategy for the day. As you might have guessed, the under-performer did not show up at 6:30 the next morning and his sales followed their previous trajectory.
