”The rich and poor meet together: The LORD is the maker of them all.“
Proverbs 22:2
The rich- in this sense the word could mean, “noble,” which carries the idea the person is not nobility by birth but instead is noble and deserves respect. In contrast, the word poor carries the notion they are impoverished by choice. This is not someone who had misfortune, on the contrary they wasted and squandered their life and resources.
The picture being painted is two persons which have earned their position, one by behaving wisely the other by behaving foolishly, meet together; or they come to the same place at the same time.
This can be referencing many types of meetings:
It could be casual as in sitting together at a sporting event or school play, standing in line at a restaurant,
The meeting could be a reunion from family, military, school or team.
They could convene for financial reasons as in a business meeting.
They may be in a courtroom together or, this could be speaking about them standing in front of God as a judge.
In every situation, these people are equals. They should be afforded the same courtesies. The noble wise man may have notoriety but he is not superior. The LORD built them both and loves them equally. How they behave, the decisions they make and their abilities may differ. Both will reap the consequences of their behaviors, decisions and abilities but NEITHER is to be given deference over the other. This thought process is where Blind Justice originates.
