”An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; But the end thereof shall not be blessed.“
Proverbs 20:21
To write this passage another way:
If a person accesses their inheritance hurriedly (from greed, anxiousness or terror), the future of that decision will not be favorable.
This passage calls to mind the story of The Prodigal Son in the book of Luke chapter 15.
The Son asked his Father to receive his inheritance early. The Son spent all his inheritance on a lavish lifestyle, eventually coming to ruin after he lost the ability to support himself.
Another possible topic this could refer to is what some call: FOMO- Fear Of Missing Out, or Panic Buying. These ideas are common in society as they are typically utilized to instill anxiety or worry in people and drive them to purchase something or more of that thing than is rational.
For instance, when I was younger, anytime snow was forecasted in our area people would go to the store and buy bread, milk and batteries. I asked my Mamaw once why she was buying batteries. I had just seen several unopened packages nestled in a kitchen drawer from a previous “snow storm.” She said she wanted to make sure she had enough and purchased a new pack.
Logic and reason were not driving her decision to buy. Fear and anxiety were the motivating factors and those do not typically lead to a blessed end.
I try to train my Clients to make well informed decisions and do their best to place themselves in a position of power or strength. If you can negotiate and choose to walk away from a deal without harming yourself because the terms are not acceptable then you are negotiating from a position of power. If you MUST sell or purchase you are trapped and are negotiating from a position of weakness. Those negotiations rarely go in your favor.
