”The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; Therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.“
Proverbs 20:4
To properly grasp a main concept of this maxim please take note the person making the decision has misplaced the value in the situation. The value of each decision or action should be weighed based on the consequence or outcome. This person has placed the value on their current situation instead of where the decision and action (or inaction) leads.
One way to see the passage looks something like this:
A lazy person will make excuses for not working because it’s uncomfortable or inconvenient then beg others to help them when they are in need, and one day, have nothing.
If you allow yourself or those you lead to make excuses you are inviting destruction.
Two things to remember:
1. Making excuses does not remove consequences.
2. The value of the decision or action should be calculated based on the consequence
